Is Bodycam worth playing after Locked & Loaded? Modes, Early Access and PC specs
IN SHORT
Bodycam's September overhaul adds a new loadout system, weapon customization, tactical tools and Trenches. Here is what the Early Access shooter offers now and what PC it needs.

Bodycam is an online tactical FPS built around an unusually physical body-camera perspective. The weapon is attached to the operator rather than floating at the centre of the screen, the game removes the usual crosshair and ammo counter, and the camera reacts aggressively to movement. That presentation is the main reason to play it, but also the reason a conventional shooter player can need time to decide whether it feels immersive or simply disorienting.
The timing of that decision matters because Bodycam is still an Early Access game. Reissad Studio's official Steam page says the project may remain in Early Access for several years and that the price could change after it leaves the programme. The September 2, 2026 Locked & Loaded update is therefore a major rebuild of the current game, not a final-version launch. Buy for what is playable now, not for a promised finish line.
What Locked & Loaded actually changed
The developer's September update notes describe a new loadout and weapon-customisation flow with roughly 400 attachments. Those parts affect aim-down-sights speed, reload speed, recoil, spread, weapon kick and magazine capacity instead of acting only as cosmetics. New weapons, revised weapon models and stress-sensitive reload animations make preparation more important than it was in the earlier Early Access build.
The update also introduced the Trenches battlefield, tactical FPV drones and reconnaissance RC cars, a shooting-range hub and an in-world tablet for loadouts, settings and matchmaking. Patch 0.8.7 followed one day later with control fixes, individual player mute, DLSS Multi Frame Generation and match-flow adjustments. That quick follow-up is useful evidence of active support, but it also reinforces the Early Access warning: systems and balance can change again after this guide is published.

| Mode | Structure | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Wingman | 2v2 Search & Destroy-style rounds | Small teams that want communication and precise positioning |
| Body Bomb | 5v5 objective combat | Players who want a structured team objective |
| Team Deathmatch | Team score race | Learning weapons without round-elimination pressure |
| Deathmatch and Gun Game | Faster free-for-all variants | Mechanical practice and short sessions |
| Hardpoint | Rotating area control | Teams comfortable moving through contested spaces |
| Zombies | Round-based co-op survival | Friends who prefer fighting AI rather than other players |
The body-camera movement is the real buying test
Bodycam does not aim like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty. The weapon, torso and camera have separate-feeling inertia, and the lack of a permanent HUD forces you to read the model, sound and environment. Aiming too quickly can make the sight picture harder to track, while careless turns expose more of the operator than a normal centred camera suggests. The learning curve is not just map knowledge; it is learning where your virtual body and muzzle actually are.
The photoreal presentation is not a skin placed over a standard FPS. It changes how aiming, movement, awareness and even motion comfort feel.
That makes motion sensitivity a legitimate purchase consideration. Watch uncut gameplay rather than only a cinematic trailer, and pay attention to camera sway during sprinting, fast turns and close-quarters fights. If those sequences are uncomfortable to watch, higher frame rate and adjusted settings may help, but they cannot turn Bodycam into a fixed-camera shooter. Steam's standard refund policy can provide a limited test window, subject to its current rules, but a buyer should confirm those rules before depending on them.
Minimum and recommended PC requirements
The official minimum lists Windows 10 or 11, a Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-9700K, 8 GB RAM, an RX 5700 8 GB or RTX 2070 8 GB, broadband internet and 50 GB of storage. Steam recommends an SSD even at this tier. These are demanding minimums compared with many competitive shooters, which is consistent with the Unreal Engine 5 environments and the game's emphasis on dense lighting, materials and camera effects.

The recommended tier moves to a Ryzen 7 3800X or Core i7-10700K, 16 GB RAM and an RX 6600 XT 8 GB or RTX 3060 12 GB, while keeping the 50 GB storage figure. Steam does not attach a fixed resolution, preset or frame-rate promise to either tier. Treat recommended as the safer target and leave additional CPU, GPU and memory headroom if you plan to record or stream a fast multiplayer game.
Who should buy Bodycam now?
Bodycam is easiest to recommend to a group that actively wants an experimental, high-immersion multiplayer shooter. Wingman and objective modes reward communication, Zombies provides a cooperative alternative, and the new attachment system gives regular players a reason to shape multiple loadouts. It is a less certain purchase for someone expecting a complete campaign, a finished competitive ecosystem or a familiar low-latency arena-shooter feel.
Price should be the final comparison, not the first. Check the live totals on the Bodycam price page, confirm that the listing is the base game for Steam and verify its activation region before checkout. A temporary Steam event or marketplace listing can change independently of the article, so the guide deliberately does not freeze a sale price into the copy.
- Is Bodycam still in Early Access?
- Yes. Steam labels it Early Access, and Reissad Studio says the phase may last several years. Locked & Loaded is a major update to the current build, not the final release.
- Does Bodycam have a single-player campaign?
- The official feature set focuses on online PvP, custom matches and cooperative Zombies. It is not sold as a traditional story campaign shooter.
- Can Bodycam be played cooperatively?
- Yes. Its round-based Zombies mode supports cooperative play, while the competitive modes are built around multiplayer teams or free-for-all combat.
- Is an SSD required for Bodycam?
- Steam lists 50 GB of storage and says an SSD is recommended. The wording is not a strict SSD requirement, but it is the publisher's preferred storage configuration.
