BUNDLES

How we'll evaluate every bundle: the only number that actually matters

IN SHORT

Not a review of a specific bundle — the method we'll use once we're tracking them, worked through on a real example.

How we'll evaluate every bundle: the only number that actually matters featured image

A bundle is valuable only when its price beats the realistic cost of the included games you would otherwise buy. Publisher RRP, the number of items and the advertised combined value can all exaggerate the saving. Our method starts with the current individual prices, removes games the buyer does not want and treats duplicate ownership and DLC requirements as costs rather than bonuses.

The core bundle formula

Write down the bundle price. Then open the current comparison page for every included game you genuinely intend to play and total the cheapest compatible offers. Ignore titles added only to enlarge the item count. The bundle saving is the individual total minus the bundle price. The effective cost per wanted game is the bundle price divided by the number of wanted games—not the total number printed on the bundle banner.

Worked method using three current catalogue pages
StepWhat to recordDecision
1Current compatible price for Terraria, Stardew Valley and Euro Truck Simulator 2Your real individual benchmark
2Remove any game you would not buy separatelyPrevents filler from creating fake value
3Subtract owned games unless extra copies have valueAvoid paying twice
4Compare the adjusted total with the bundle checkout pricePositive difference is the actual saving

The exact prices refresh on each linked game page, so this method stays useful after today's numbers change. If you want all three games, add their current totals. If you only want Terraria, compare the entire bundle price with Terraria alone. A bundle that is cheaper than three RRPs can still be more expensive than one game bought on sale.

Remove filler, duplicates and incompatible products

A soundtrack, art book, cosmetic pack or DLC is not another full game. A second copy of something already in your library has zero value unless the bundle provides a transferable key you genuinely plan to give away. Region and platform matter too: five cheap products do not form a useful bundle when one activates on another platform or the key cannot be redeemed in your country.

Check whether the bundle is complete or fixed

Some storefront bundles discount only products missing from your library, while others charge a fixed package price and may deliver non-transferable duplicates. Read the purchase rule before applying the formula. For a complete-the-set bundle, use the displayed personal total. For a fixed key bundle, subtract the value of duplicates yourself because the marketing total will not do it for you.

The value of a bundle is the cost it replaces for you, not the retail total printed beside it.

When a mystery or charity bundle changes the equation

Mystery bundles cannot be evaluated game by game before purchase, so treat the entire price as entertainment spend rather than a guaranteed saving. Charity support can be a valid reason to buy, but keep it separate from the software-value calculation. A contribution may make a bundle worthwhile personally without making its game pricing unusually strong.

What PriceSpawn will publish once bundle feeds are connected

We will show the bundle price, individually comparable products, current eligible offer total, owned/filler assumptions and the resulting adjusted saving. Until a reliable bundle feed is connected, this page documents the method rather than pretending to list live bundles. The game-page links provide the changing input values; the arithmetic and disclosure rules remain stable.

Should DLC count as another game in a bundle?
No. Count it separately and only if you own or intend to buy the required base game. Item count and game count are not interchangeable.
How should I value a game I already own?
Usually at zero. Give it value only if the bundle supplies a transferable copy you have a concrete use for and the platform permits that transfer.
Does a high advertised RRP total prove a strong bundle?
No. Compare against current compatible purchase prices for wanted games. Old RRPs and unwanted filler can make the headline total much larger than the cost the bundle actually replaces.
